While the California Welcome Center is not selling Christmas tree cutting permits this year, we've compiled a list below of all the local areas where permits can be purchased. Shasta-Trinity National Forest:
Christmas Tree Permits for Shasta-Trinity National Forest go on sale November 1 and are valid through December 31. A permit costs $10.00. Each household may cut only one tree. Online: Permits may be purchased online at Recreation.gov. Fourth-grade students are eligible for a free Christmas tree permit, paying only the $2.50 service fee under the Every Kid Outdoors program. It is important to carefully read the overview and the need-to-know information prior to purchasing the permit. Visitors will need to set up or log in to a Recreation.gov account to complete the secure credit card transaction.

Mt. Shasta locations include: The Fifth Season, Ramshaw’s Ace Hardware, and Solano’s Do It Best Hardware

Weaverville locations include: Trinity Country Visitors Center and Up North Confectionary and Mercantile
Hayfork locations include: The Watershed Research and Training Center
Redding locations include: Redding Sports LTD and Ace Hardware (on Hartnell Ave)
By mail: Permits may be purchased by calling with a credit card or mailing a check to your local Shasta-Trinity National Forest Ranger Station. Permits and maps will be returned by mail. Please allow up to two weeks for processing.
Lassen National Forest (LNF):
Christmas tree permits for Lassen National Forest are $10 each with a two tree permit maximum per household. Lassen NF Christmas Tree Permits will be on sale November 1st through December 4th.
