Chasing Waterfalls in UpState CA!

Fern Falls

The falls are accessible from the Fern Falls Overlook Trail. The trailhead is located on Gold Lake Road about 6 miles from Highway 89. The trail is short but rocky, with big granite steps and gorgeous views. Look for penstemons, mountain lilac, and mariposa lilies growing in rocky soils. Please note that the trail can be hard to follow at times, but if you generally follow the creek, you will find the falls!

Little Canyon Creek Falls

The smallest of multiple waterfalls on Canyon Creek, Little Canyon Creek Falls is the first waterfall you’ll see on the Canyon Creek Trail. 

Middle McCloud Falls

This is the middle of three levels of the McCloud River Falls and is the largest and most impressive with a 44 foot drop providing a magnificent view. This waterfall is one of the widest in California at 120 feet, creating a veil of white water during spring and reducing to become two separate but uniform cascades in later seasons. Ash Creek Falls

Ash Creek Falls is known for being one of the tallest in the Mt. Shasta area at a single drop of 290 feet. The falls must be viewed from afar due to the canyon terrain and is best for viewing during summer months when glacier runoff is greatest. This waterfall is accessible by trail.

Battle Creek Falls

At 16 feet tall and varying in width throughout the year, Battle Creek Falls has a unique look due to the array of bedrock that shapes the waterfall ledge. Adjacent to its base is an interesting old powerhouse. This waterfall is easily accessible by trail and road.

Beatson Falls

In the unique terrain of Table Mountain, you will find Beaston Falls in a narrow canyon in Beaston Hollow. The best time to enjoy this waterfall is from December through April. Coordinates: 39.599077, -121.58088

Bluff Falls

This waterfall is noticeable only to those who are looking closely and is most visible during the peak of the snow melt season. A stream down a dark cliff comes from an old quarry site that is overgrown with local vegetation which obscures the waterfall. Bolam Creek Falls

Call Mt. Shasta Ranger Station at 530-926-4511 for more info. Bolam Creek is an amazing waterfall found on the north side if Mount Shasta. There is no easy access to the fall. Viewing the falls is possible from Bolam Creek and Bolam Moraine. *Not recommended for those without off-trail experience.*

Boulder Creek Falls

At over 138 feet tall, Boulder Creek Falls was thought to be the tallest waterfall in Whiskeytown National Park until the re-discovery of Whiskeytown Falls in 2004.
