This hike starts off following the gentle grade of the Lassen Park Road but then rises sharply and climbers are forced to overcome 1,000 feet of elevation in one mile. The first half of your journey to Ridge Lakes follows the gentle grade of the Lassen Park Road, gaining a mere 200 vertical feet in 0.75 mile.
