Lion Wash Falls is 14 feet of water falling in all directions, creating a very interesting look. The wide and shallow river drops off a cliff with a few different levels before coming to a large pool at the base. The waterfall is not visible from the easily accessible trail so keep your ears open to lead the way. Driving Time: 48 mins/39 miles from Redding. Difficulty: Easy

Little Hawaii Falls is named for it's lush vegetation, including vines, ferns, and moss everywhere! The trickling waterfall is not terribly impressive but altogether this is an interesting place to explore. This waterfall is easily accessible by trail. Driving Time: 1 hour 45 mins/90 miles from Redding. Difficulty: Easy

Lower Battle Creek Falls is a sight to see, with beautiful rugged terrain surroundings. The waterfall shoots off a cliff into the pool below where the river spreads and shallows, making it easy to walk across for a photo opportunity. A mossy cliff surrounds the water, creating an interesting atmosphere. This waterfall is moderately accessible.

Great for a picnic, this waterfall is twice as wide as it is tall and explodes at contact with a boulder pile and into a pool at its base, then it flows to rapids past the pool. Lower Canyon Creek Falls is moderately accessible.

There are open areas and ridge access along the trail and a scenic view of some rocky bluffs along this route. This trail branches off the Gravel Loop in a westerly direction, and ends at the Bucks Summit/Four Trees Trail.

Lower McCloud Falls

This is the lowest of three levels of the McCloud River Falls, at a 12-foot broad plunge into a large pool. Surrounding the pool are large rocks perfect for sun bathing, making this location popular for swimming and relaxing. This waterfall is easily accessible by trail and road and two other waterfalls are an easy hike further up the trail.

If strolling through the backcountry with little or no company is a goal, then this route promises to deliver. Naming this route the Manzanita Creek Trail can be a tad deceptive as the path avoids the namesake creek for all but the final stretch of the nearly 5-mile journey to the head of the canyon below Crescent Cliff.

A prettier sight than a winter view of Lassen Peak across Manzanita Lake after a fresh dusting of snow is hard to imagine.
